Figurative language can be found in poetry where the writing appeals to the senses. Figurative language can make you look at the world differently; it can heighten your senses. It compares two things in such a way that you find the comparison interesting or even a bit surprising.

Amy Van Dyken did an extraordinary job at the Olympics! The beginning was rough, but it got much better. After her first event, in which she received 4th place, Amy collapsed on the cement because of cramps. Later in the Olympic games, however, she captured 4 gold medals. Two were from relays, the 4x100-m freestyle and the 4x100-m medley. The other two gold medals were individual; the 100-m butterfly and the 50-m freestyle. The winner of the 50-m freestyle receives the title "the world's fastest woman" in water

Your beauty overwhelms me

As I wrap my arms around you

I press your softness tight

Great passion fills my inner being

I'm captured in your embrace
Your eyes control my very soul
The touch of your lips, heaven
Forever frozen in time
All else fades into nothing

Bitter Blow of Love

Love! you dealt a bitter blow –
You lay me cross the mortal plains,
Bedewed, bedimmed amongst a show
Of tearful clouds: eternal rains
To weep at my enduring foe

Of harsh reality – searing pains of

Destiny: dependable propensity

To fool myself repeatedly

That I could ever triumph over love!

Chocolate is a psychoactive food. It is made from the seeds of the tropical cacao tree. The cacao tree was named by the 17th century Swedish naturalist, Linnaeus. The Greek term theobroma means literally "food of the gods". Chocolate has also been called the food of the devil; but the theological basis of this claim is obscure.
Cacao beans were used by the Aztecs to prepare a hot, frothy beverage with stimulant and restorative properties. Chocolate itself was reserved for warriors, nobility and priests. The Aztecs esteemed its reputed ability to confer wisdom and vitality. Taken fermented as a drink, chocolate was also used in religious ceremonies. The sacred concoction was associated with Xochiquetzal, the goddess of fertility. Emperor Montezuma allegedly drank 50 goblets a day. Aztec taxation was levied in cacao beans. 100 cacao beans could buy a slave. 12 cacao beans bought the services of courtesan.
